Intel Crashes 29%: What a US Tech Selloff Means for Your EPF
Intel's worst day since 1974 and a $2 trillion Nasdaq wipeout hit Wall Street, but your EPF balance today is not changed by one day of US trading.

What happened1/5 Intel drops 29% as AI spending doubts hit US tech stocks
Intel closed down nearly 29% on Friday after its Q4 revenue guidance of $15 to $16 billion fell well short of the $17.1 billion analysts expected. The chipmaker erased almost $140 billion in market value in one session.
The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.86% to 25,437, its biggest daily percentage fall since 5 June. The S&P 500 slid 1.82% to 7,580.07 and the Dow fell 1.09% to 51,770.31. All three closed the week lower, and the Nasdaq logged a $2 trillion October wipeout.
Amazon added to the pressure with a negative free cash flow of $42.4 billion over the past 12 months, as AI spending more than doubled. AMD fell 11%, Nvidia dropped 4% and Broadcom slid 5%.

The stock still crashed because the forward-looking Q4 guidance broke the AI-recovery narrative.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index recorded a monthly loss in October. CoreWeave fell more than 37% for the month.

Why it matters3/5 EPF is not a stock ticker you watch on a screen
EPF (KWSP) invests across multiple asset classes and countries, not in one sector or one market. A single day's US tech selloff does not appear on your KWSP i-Akaun balance.
The fund's annual dividend is declared once a year, based on the full-year performance of its entire portfolio. No member can calculate today how a Friday US trading session will shift that rate.
Since 11 May 2024, new contributions are split 75% Akaun Persaraan, 15% Akaun Sejahtera, 10% Akaun Fleksibel. Each account has its own withdrawal rules set by law, not by market sentiment.
How it affects your wallet4/5 Your EPF statement today still shows the same balance
Open KWSP i-Akaun right now. The number has not moved because Intel fell 29% on Wall Street. EPF's global equity exposure feeds into returns over months and years, not hours.
The legal structure protects the bulk of your savings: Akaun Persaraan is locked until retirement. Akaun Sejahtera covers approved purposes like housing, education and health. Akaun Fleksibel allows withdrawals above a minimum balance, but you cannot top it up yourself.
None of these accounts can be emptied because a foreign stock had a bad day. A market drop is not a legal reason to request a withdrawal. If you are unsure about your options, check kwsp.gov.my or visit a KWSP counter.

What to watch5/5 What to watch, and what not to do
EPF announces its dividend rate once a year. Until that announcement, no one knows how 2026's global market moves will land in the declared figure. Speculating about it changes nothing on your statement.
The only action that changes your EPF balance today is a withdrawal request. Akaun Persaraan stays locked until retirement. For Akaun Fleksibel, you can withdraw above the minimum, but the amount is gone from your retirement pot and cannot be topped up by you.
If a US market headline makes you want to act, the useful step is to check your contribution split and account balances in the KWSP i-Akaun app. That is the only EPF number that is yours to see.
Questions people ask
Will my EPF dividend drop because of the US tech crash?
EPF dividends are announced once a year based on the fund's full-year performance across all asset classes and countries. A single day's US market move does not determine the rate. Check kwsp.gov.my ↗ for the official announcement when it is released.
Can I withdraw my EPF because the US market is falling?
Akaun Persaraan is locked until retirement. Akaun Sejahtera allows withdrawals only for approved purposes like housing or health. Akaun Fleksibel lets you withdraw above a minimum balance, but you cannot top it up yourself. A foreign market drop is not a legal reason to withdraw.
Does EPF invest in US tech stocks?
EPF invests across multiple asset classes and countries as part of a diversified portfolio. Its annual dividend reflects performance across all holdings, not one day's move in a single foreign market.
